Work package 3: Managed Aquifer Recharge

In this work package Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) will be adapted and transferred to the case study areas (CSA).

 

Main Objectives

  1. Definition of most promising MAR planning schemes at CSA
  2. Viability of Soil-Aquifer-Treatment (SAT) at Joao Pessoa (PB)
  3. Performance, impact assessment and ranking of alternative MAR schemes at CSA
  4. Recommendations for installation of demonstration units and transfer of MAR schemes to other CSA and to the regional level

 

Specific Objectives

  • Identify and characterize potential alternative sources of water for Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) at the case study areas (CSA);
  • Identify most appropriate MAR technologies and locations at the CSA;
  • Study the pre-treatment requirements according to the water source and groundwater recharge technology
  • Conduct spatial MCA studies, based on laboratory and field experiments to support the selection of adequate MAR locations and model development
  • Define and quantify a set of socio-economic and environmental decision criteria in accordance to WP8 for performance and impact assessment
